Notizia di costume: gli emoticon (le faccine) compiono 25 anni!

Lo riporta SlashDot in una notizia in cui il Carnegie Mellon University professor Scott E. Fahlman dichiara che lui per primo nel lontano 1982 ha usato la combinazione di tre simboli di punteggiatura per aggiungere sensazioni e sentimenti ai messaggi di testo. Per l’esattezza ‘11:44 a.m. on Sept. 19, 1982′ durante una discussione sui limiti sull’humor nei messaggi di testo, che necessitava di un mezzo per rendere quelle espressioni che, per esemio, ci permettono di rendere un commento scherzoso, facendo capire al nostro interlocutore, con un sorriso, di non prenderlo troppo sul serio.

Certo ora siamo passati dagli emoticons testuali, a quelli grafici, a quelli animati, ma il problema di fondo rimane: è sempre difficile in una comunicazione scritta sensazioni e sentimenti, cosa che porta a volte a grossi equivoci…

The smiley turns 25, according to Carnegie Mellon University professor Scott E. Fahlman who says he was the first to use three keystrokes. ‘Language experts say the smiley face and other emotional icons, known as emoticons, have given people a concise way in e-mail and other electronic messages of expressing sentiments that otherwise would be difficult to detect. Fahlman posted the emoticon in a message to an online electronic bulletin board at 11:44 a.m. on Sept. 19, 1982, during a discussion about the limits of online humor and how to denote comments meant to be taken lightly‘”.

My thought: in any case sometimes it’s very hard to let people we are writing to understand exactly our feelings. Often it takes to big misunderstandings…
